We often think of the Samsung Frame when we hear "flush mount," but the new Samsung S95D OLED is giving it a run for its money. It is razor-thin, incredibly bright, and designed to sit tight against the wall. But there is a catch.
When a TV sits this flush against the wall, there is physically no room behind it for an Apple TV, power bricks, or excess cabling.
I spent the day in Edina, Minnesota, solving exactly this problem. The homeowner wanted a clean, minimalist look to match their beautiful mid-century modern credenza, but they didn't want any visible boxes cluttering the furniture.
The GearTV: 65" Samsung OLED S95D (known for its "glare-free" matte screen and ultra-slim profile).
Audio: Samsung Ultra-Slim Soundbar.
Components: Apple TV 4K & Samsung One Connect Box.
Where does the "brain" go? Unlike standard TVs where you can Velcro a streaming stick to the back, the S95D uses a "One Connect Box"—a large separate brick that houses all the HDMI ports and power. It's too bulky to sandwich behind a flush-mounted OLED.
If you mount this incorrectly, you end up having to stack the black box on that beautiful wooden cabinet below.
To keep the credenza completely clear, I installed a recessed in-wall media box behind the TV location.
Cutting the Cavity: I cut a precise opening in the drywall behind where the screen would sit.
Hiding the Tech: I placed the Samsung One Connect Box and the Apple TV inside the wall structure.
Ventilation & Power: This keeps the components cool and completely invisible, accessible only if the TV is pulled away.
To match the sleek profile of the TV, we mounted the Samsung Ultra-Slim Soundbar directly below it. I ran the power and audio cables through the wall, connecting them secretly to the hidden components in the recessed box.
As you can see in the photo, the result is a "floating" entertainment system. No wires. No black plastic boxes on the furniture. Just a stunning 4K OLED picture and immersive sound.
This is the difference between simply hanging a TV and designing a solution for the room.
